The Used Truck Association is pleased to award scholarships on behalf of the Nerman Family and the membership of the UTA.

  • Six $6,000 scholarships for full-time students at accredited 4-year colleges/universities
  • Six $6,000 scholarships for full-time students at accredited vocational-technical institutions, focusing on diesel mechanics and/or bodywork

Applicants must be endorsed by a current UTA member in good standing and enrolled as a full-time student. Only complete applications will be considered. This scholarship is a one-time award. Recipients are not eligible to reapply; however, applicants who are not selected may submit a new application in future years.

Winners are selected by an independent college board of admissions panel. Candidates are evaluated on their academic success, school and community activities, work accomplishments, and references.

 

TO BE ELIGIBLE, COMPLETE APPLICATION PACKETS MUST INCLUDE:

  • A completed application form, including endorsement by a current UTA member in good standing
  • High school transcripts and college transcripts, if applicable
  • One letter of recommendation from a high school counselor, college advisor, instructor, or supervisor
  • One letter of recommendation from a non-relative in the community, such as a business professional, community leader, or coach

About these Scholarships

The UTA Jerome Nerman Family Foundation was formed in 2006 from the passion of Jerry Nerman to help students further their education. Year after year, the UTA strives to grow funding from several events and donations. The number has grown to 12 total scholarships of $6,000 each.

For 2026, there are 6 scholarships for students of accredited 4-year universities and 6 scholarships for students of vocational-technical institutions with an emphasis in diesel mechanics and/or bodywork. Candidates are evaluated on their academic success, school and community activities, work accomplishments, and references.


 

How much is each award?

Each scholarship is a one-time scholarship of $6,000 sent to the educational institution.


 

Who should apply?

Any student attending full-time at an accredited 4-year university and any student attending a vocational-technical institution with diesel mechanics/body shop emphasis. You must have a current UTA member recommend/sponsor you. There is a place on the form where you fill out their name and information.

Continuing education costs continue to grow. Why not take some time to fill out the form and possibly receive $6,000 toward your tuition?

How does the scholarship money get paid?

Recipients will be notified via email with the next steps for check disbursement. Once the checks are issued, scholarship winners will receive a tracking number. Please note that the checks are made payable to the recipient's academic institution.
